Building Ventures That Actually Work

We've spent the better part of two decades figuring out what makes financial ventures succeed in Australia. Not through guesswork, but by working alongside businesses that were willing to try new approaches and learn from what didn't work the first time around.

Most venture builders will promise you the moon. We'd rather show you how we've helped businesses in Perth, Sydney, and Melbourne build something solid that lasts beyond the initial enthusiasm.

How We Got Here

quoryplex started in 2012 when three of us realized that the venture building advice floating around wasn't matching what businesses actually needed. Too much theory, not enough practical support for the messy reality of building something from scratch.

We began working with a handful of Perth-based financial startups, helping them navigate everything from regulatory hurdles to finding the right team members. Some worked brilliantly. Others taught us valuable lessons about what not to do next time.

By 2018, we'd refined our approach enough that businesses started seeking us out. We've now worked with over forty ventures across Australia, and honestly, we're still learning from each one. The financial sector keeps changing, which means our methods need to adapt too.

These days, we focus specifically on venture building because that's where we've seen the clearest impact. Not consultancy that disappears after a report, but hands-on support that stays until you're confident running things yourself.

What Drives Our Work

These aren't corporate values we hung on a wall. They're the principles that emerged from seeing what actually helps businesses succeed.

Honest Feedback

We'll tell you when an idea needs more work, even if it's not what you want to hear. Better to adjust early than discover problems six months down the track when you've already invested heavily.

Practical Support

Theory is fine for universities. Businesses need actionable steps they can implement this week, not abstract frameworks. We focus on what you can actually do with your current resources and timeline.

Long-Term Thinking

Quick wins are tempting, but we'd rather build something sustainable. That means sometimes choosing the slower path that leads to lasting results rather than shortcuts that create problems later.

Transparent Process

You'll always know where we are in the process and why we're recommending specific approaches. No mysterious consultant magic, just clear explanations of our reasoning.

Realistic Expectations

Venture building is challenging work with no guarantees. We set realistic timeframes and acknowledge when outcomes depend on factors outside anyone's control. Overpromising helps nobody.

Continuous Learning

The financial sector in 2025 looks different from 2020, which looked different from 2015. We adapt our methods based on what's actually working now, not what worked five years ago.

How We Actually Work

Every venture faces different challenges, but we've noticed patterns over the years. Most businesses struggle with the same handful of issues, just in different combinations.

We start by understanding what you're trying to build and why. Not the elevator pitch version, but the real story including the difficult parts you're worried about. Then we figure out which challenges need addressing first, because trying to solve everything simultaneously just creates chaos.

Our role shifts depending on what you need. Sometimes that's strategic guidance on market positioning. Other times it's helping you build operational systems or connect with the right partners. We've found that flexibility matters more than sticking rigidly to a predetermined process.

What we don't do is disappear after delivering advice. We stick around during implementation because that's when unexpected challenges appear. Having someone who understands your context available when those moments hit makes a real difference.

  • Initial assessment focused on your specific situation rather than generic templates
  • Priority mapping to tackle the most critical challenges first
  • Hands-on support during implementation, not just strategic documents
  • Regular review sessions to adjust approaches based on what's working
  • Connection to our network of specialists when you need expertise we don't have

We typically work with ventures for eight to eighteen months, though the timeline depends entirely on your needs and progress. Some businesses reach independence faster, others benefit from extended support as they scale.

Who You'll Work With

We keep our team deliberately small because venture building requires deep involvement, not surface-level consultancy. You'll work directly with the people who've been building this practice for years.

Siobhan Kingsford

Principal Venture Strategist

Siobhan joined us in 2014 after spending nearly a decade in financial services, where she kept seeing good ideas fail because of execution problems rather than market issues. She focuses on helping businesses identify which challenges actually matter versus which ones feel urgent but won't impact success.

Her background includes time at two Australian banks and three years working with fintech startups in Melbourne. These days, she splits her time between direct client work and refining our venture building frameworks based on what we're learning.

Outside work, she's usually hiking somewhere around Perth or trying to convince her garden to survive Western Australia's summers. She's also been mentoring at Spacecubed since 2019, working with early-stage founders who need straightforward advice.
